Geranium Festival 2023

Join us at the festival and support the club by getting one of our famous tomato sandwiches on May 20th!

Come on down to the McDonough Square on Saturday, May 20 to browse hundreds of artisans, crafters, food vendors, and local organizations offering their goodness at the annual Geranium Festival.  While you are there, don’t forget to get your tomato sandwiches from the McDonough Jr. Women’s Club.

We have offered our simple, but very tasty, tomato sandwiches at the festival for 26 years and counting! As a nonprofit, this is our annual fundraiser and proceeds support our charitable giving and community service activities throughout the year.

What makes these tomato sandwiches so special?

With bread donated from BIMBO Bakeries, fresh tomatoes from Thompson’s Market, and onions from Grand Gourmet, these sandwiches are a homegrown treat. You can choose to get yours with or without onion and get chips and a drink too. Bring cash! Our delicious sandwiches are cash only.

What’s even sweeter is that each dollar raised gets invested back into our community.

Thrifting in Locust Grove

For our August social, we went thrifting in Locust Grove. We began our outing with lunch at Lovin’ Oven Pizza. Sitting downtown across from the train tracks, Lovin’ Oven offers a variety of pizzas, calzones, and craft beers. I had the cauliflower crust pizza and it was amazing!

After stopping for a group photo, we took a short walk to The Grove Depot and then to Plantar’s Walk Antique store. Both stores are filled with rows and rows of antique and modern furniture, decor, and collectables. We enjoyed wandering and searching and sharing ideas.

Our July Social, Exploring Hampton

The women of the McDonough Junior Women’s Club enjoy a social activity each month and we love to support local business. Exploring Hampton in July, a group of us went to Rutabaga’s Cafe, Amore Uniquely Me Boutique, and Camp Creek Brewing.

As we were exploring Hampton, we stopped at Rutabaga’s Café. The small café is open for breakfast and lunch and serves a variety of sandwiches, soups, fun sides and sweet desserts. The décor is a flashback in time to vinyl records, cassette tapes, and classic music. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of Cuban sandwiches, BLTs, pea salad, macaroni salad, and chocolate cake,

After lunch, we strolled up main street to a welcoming boutique, Amore, Uniquely You. The store is filled with on-trend clothes, jewelry, and accessories. The owners are delightful too. We ended up in a sing along as we were checking out our finds.

Our last stop for the day was Camp Creek Brewing. The brewery has a nice outdoor spot for corn hole and visiting. We went upstairs to the tap room where they have a variety of craft beers to taste, a camp-like atmosphere, and some old fashioned games open for use.

We all had a great time exploring Hampton and look forward to the next outing of the McDonough Junior Women’s Club.
